Blackhawks sign Flaherty, two defensemen

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday that they have signed veteran goaltender Wade Flaherty, as well as free agent defensemen Jim Fahey and Prestin Ryan.
The 39-year old Flaherty played last season for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. Originally selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Flaherty had enjoyed NHL stints with San Jose, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, and Nashville. In 120 career games, Flaherty owns a 27-55-9 record with five shutouts and a 3.51 goals against average. He has also appeared in seven career playoff games (2-3, 4.93 GAA).
Fahey, 28, played 13 games for the New Jersey Devils in 2006-2007, and has appeared in 92 career NHL games since being drafted by San Jose in 1998. He has 25 career points and 67 career penalty minutes.
Ryan, 27, was a teammate of Flaherty's in Manitoba last season, scoring five goals and notching 16 assists in 58 games. Originally signed by Columbus in 2004 out of the University of Maine, Ryan has appeared in just one career NHL game, with the Vancouver Canucks in 2005-06.
